As the year draws to a close, Yuki Gabe, the producer of Pokémon UNITE, has once again reached out to the game's community to share details about the changes planned for 2024. In her 'Producer's Letter', Gabe outlined several balance updates that will be implemented starting next year. Here's a glimpse into her message to the fans.
EX Licenses represent a new category within Pokémon UNITE's existing licenses. While these won't alter the power level of the specific Pokémon, they will enable special regulations in ranked matches involving one or more Master-rank players.
The EX Licenses will be introduced following the update on December 5th. The Pokémon that will have EX licenses include:
Gabe stated in her letter, "In Ranked Season 17 starting on January 16, 2024, the use of EX licenses (including the 3 Pokémon listed above) in each team will be prohibited. Regulations will change for each series and will be announced before the start of the series. You will be able to play as usual in Unite Battles other than ranked matches.”
Draft Pick battles are slated to return to Pokémon UNITE, kicking off with the new Ranked Season 18 on February 27, 2024. These battles will now allow both teams to vote on a Pokémon to ban from play. Once both teams have selected a Pokémon to ban, players will take turns choosing their Pokémon, with no Pokémon being chosen more than once, regardless of the team that has chosen it. While Draft Pick battles were previously introduced as an experimental game mode, they are now set to become a permanent fixture.
Gabe added, “These draft pick battles will be the same that are used in tournaments leading up to the Pokémon World Championships, but we are considering ways to change the format to better suit ranked matches—without necessarily adhering to the same rules. Also, while we are targeting Master-rank players, we are still considering the affected ranks and format of this temporary addition.”
On December 5, 2023, two new held items will be added to the in-game shop:
Further details about these new Pokémon UNITE held items will be revealed in the coming days.
In conclusion, Gabe's message underscores the development team's commitment to evolving the game and enhancing the player experience in 2024. With the introduction of EX Licenses, the return of Draft Pick battles, and new held items, Pokémon UNITE players have much to look forward to in the upcoming year.
