On October 22, 2024, Disney announced that its streaming apps "Disney+" and "Hulu" on iOS would no longer support in-app subscriptions through the Apple App Store, challenging the 30% "Apple tax" on in-app purchases.
November marked the first full month without subscriptions via the App Store for "Disney+."
Did this challenge impact "Disney+"?
Absolutely! Before October, "Disney+" had been maintaining a positive growth trend.
However, there was a noticeable decline in revenue in October, which continued into November.
In November, "Disney+" experienced a historic low in revenue on the App Store, with earnings of $46,489,101.
It is evident that when they stopped accepting new subscribers through the App Store, the upward revenue trend for "Disney+" immediately halted and quickly shifted to a downward trajectory.

Hulu
Has 'Hulu: Stream TV shows & movies' also shown a downward trend in revenue on the App Store, similar to 'Disney+'?According to Global Revenue, the downward trend for "Hulu" is more pronounced compared to "Disney+".
Since October, when support for in-app subscriptions via the Apple App Store was discontinued, revenue began to decline sharply and did not stabilize through November.
In November, the steep decline continued, with revenue reaching only $16,068,303.23.

"Google Gemini" was officially launched on the App Store on November 13th.
