Apart from the streaming apps with Olympic broadcasting rights, other apps like the social networking app "Threads," the AI productivity app "ChatGPT," and the game "Snake.io" have also shown impressive growth in specific areas!
Let's dive deeper into these apps and explore what's been happening with them!
Social Networking App-Peacock
In 2024, sports apps experienced a noticeable growth trend due to the UEFA and the Paris Olympics. Especially during the Paris Olympics in July, more and more viewers opted to watch the games using streaming apps on their phones rather than traditional TV.
In July, streaming apps with exclusive broadcasting rights for the Olympics, such as "Peacock" in the U.S. and 咪咕体育" in China, saw incredible increases in both downloads and revenue.
Now, let's dive into some specific insights about Peacock in the United States.
In the United States, NBC's Peacock was the exclusive streaming app for the Olympics and emerged as the biggest global beneficiary among streaming apps during this event.
According to our
download and revenue data, Peacock topped the sports app revenue chart on the App Store in July with an impressive revenue of $18,456,443. It also climbed 9 spots in the download rankings, securing the second position with 2,315,164 downloads.
The only app ahead of it was the official Paris Olympics app, Paris 2024 Paralympics, formerly known as Paris 2024 Olympics.
On Google Play, Peacock also demonstrated its dominance by securing the top spot in the sports app revenue category with an impressive revenuec of $8,847,753. This figure is nearly double the revenue of its closest competitor, Paramount+.
From the comparison with other sports apps, it's clear that Peacock emerged as the biggest winner during the Olympics in July!
Was July the Best Month for Peacock This Year?
The answer is: Absolutely!
Based on
Estimated Revenue and
Estimated Downloads, Peacock's performance before and after the Olympics on the App Store shows a stark contrast. During the first six months of 2024, the app was in a stagnant phase, with monthly revenue hovering around the average monthly revenue and downloads even falling below the monthly average.
However, thanks to the Olympics, Peacock achieved a significant leap in July, setting a new record for both monthly revenue and downloads by the end of the month. Compared to June, revenue saw a month-over-month increase of 14%, while the user base grew by nearly 230%.
In addition to its impressive revenue, Peacock also achieved its highest download numbers for the first half of 2024 on Google Play in July. Compared to June, the downloads more than doubled!

Social Networking-Threads
July was not only a successful month for Peacock but also for Threads!
In July 2024, Threads achieved a new download record on the App Store with 17,332,911 downloads. This marks the highest monthly download figure since the app was launched in June 2023.
Threads saw a notable increase in its user base in July, with downloads growing by nearly 26.62% compared to June. This acceleration in user growth suggests an increasing momentum compared to the first half of 2024.
However, according to the
Estimated Downloads of Threads, the app experienced an even more significant month-over-month growth in December 2023, with a 152.67% increase. This surge was driven by its initial launch in the EU, where European users could register for Threads without needing an Instagram account.
Is the growth for Threads in July the end of the road? Will it continue to break download records in August?
Stay tuned to
FoxData, where we will update the data on September 1st. You'll be the first to know if Threads continues its record-breaking streak in August!
As of the latest data available up to August 23th, the probability of Threads setting another download record is still quite high!
As of August 23rd, Threads has already achieved 13,214,053 downloads, significantly surpassing its June numbers. The app is just 4,118,858 downloads short of breaking its all-time high of 17,332,911 set in July.
Given that the average daily downloads in August, 600,639, are well above the required daily average to surpass the July record of 514,857.25, Threads is on track to set a new milestone."
AI Producticity-ChatGPT
In July, Threads achieved a record-breaking month in user acquisition, while ChatGPT set its highest revenue record ever!
- App Store Revenue: $14,007,255
- Google Play Revenue: $3,718,785
Since its launch in August 2023, ChatGPT has shown a consistent upward trend in revenue on both the App Store and Google Play. The app's growth has been healthy and stable.
Although July marked the highest revenue month for ChatGPT, the fastest growth rate was actually observed in May, coinciding with the launch of GPT-4o.
The record revenue in July can be attributed to the introduction of GPT-4o mini on July 18th, marketed as the "most cost-effective small model."
Based on the current average daily revenue growth for August, it appears unlikely that ChatGPT will surpass its July revenue unless a major event occurs.
